Indie Game Preview: Gunpoint - This 8-Bit Life

Leland Flynn

So what we have here is a video of a prototype for a game called Gunpoint, self-stated as “a game about rewiring things and punching people.” While  perhaps comedically understated this is a fair assesment, but not nearly good enough to describe how fun it looks. The game plays like a platformer of sorts but rather than controlling your jumps through precision manipulation the player is given a trajectory line that shows the arc of their jump as they adjust it. Controls seem nice and simple, left to right to move, plan your jump and then release. Likewise the gameplay seems minimalist but slick in its minimalism. if you aim your jump at an enemy you will tackle them and knock them out, you can also use environmental tools like light switches to lure guards into traps and from there you sneak your way to a computer in the level to steal data. This game reminds me a lot of N+ in a way. I love the art style and I hope to see more! For now here’s a video. For more information directly from the creators check out their site here.
