Marcin Jakubowski and the Global Village Construction Set - This 8-Bit Life
I have written about the Open Source Ecology project and the Global Village Construction Set here before but, today I had a chance to meet with the man behind it all. Marcin Jakubowski made his way out to the Dallas Makerspace to speak to us about the project’s amazing progress and the long road ahaead. We discussed some of the technical aspects of the existing and planned devices in the GVCS as well as the concepts behing the project. The plan is to have all 50 of the planned devices prototyped in some form by December 21, 2012. This is a lofty goal indeed but, Marcin believes that it is attainable and indeed it is. It will require the dedication and ingenuity of many a maker and/or engineer. What the OSE needs right now are skilled volunteers, lots of them. If the project interests you at all I would highly recommend visiting the OSE site and volunteering, the cause is a noble and important one. I hope very much that the DMS can contribute to this project. I’ll be posting the video from our talk on this blog once it has been edited.
To give those not in the know a taste of what the purpose is I have embedded a few of their videos below. Enjoy!
