Ubuntu 11.10 Oneric Ocelot is nigh! - This 8-Bit Life

Leland Flynn

Epic countdown is fucking epic! Ubuntu is promising “A whole new world. A whole new computer.” Or at least that’s what we’re seeing on the countdown page for the latest release of Canonical’s Ubuntu Linux Distribution. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got going on, but with words like this they’d better deliver. We’ve only got 8 days from this post to see what Canonical means by “A whole new computer.”

  1. whome?

I'm curious to know why 11.10 would be such a big change from 11.04. One would think something supposedly as big as they are making this out to be would at least warrant a major version change, to 12.x.

  2. Kentamanos

I'm pretty sure their version numbers are YY.MM (year dot month), so they can't switch to 12.x until next year.

I'm actually unclear as to what the major changes will be here. And I have no clue what they mean by that "new computer" business. As for versioning I believe Kentamanos is correct.. I am excited to see it though, Ubuntu has always been a favorite OS of mine.
